HabitJournal — Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how HabitJournal (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles your information when you use the Android application HabitJournal, published on Google Play.
1. Summary
- Your journal data stays on your device. Habits, check-ins, journal entries, moods and streaks are stored locally on your phone using Android’s local database (Room). We do not operate a server that stores your content, and we never read your journal.
- We collect anonymous usage and crash data through Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
- No ads. No third-party data sharing. No sale of data.
2. Data stored on your device (local)
The following information is created by you and stored only on your device:
- Habits you create (name, icon, color)
- Daily check-ins (which habit, which day)
- Journal entries (mood and optional note you attach to a check-in)
- Streak statistics (current streak, best streak, totals)
- App settings (theme, onboarding selections)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (CSV export) and choose to share the exported file.
Deleting the app deletes all of this data. Uninstalling HabitJournal removes the local database permanently.
3. Data collected automatically (Firebase)
HabitJournal uses the following Google services to improve the app:
Firebase Analytics
- What: anonymous, aggregated usage events (e.g., screens viewed, features used, app opens).
- Why: to understand which features matter so we can prioritize improvements.
- What we do NOT collect: the content of your journal entries, habit names, or any personal identifiers. Analytics events are not linked to your journal content.
Firebase Crashlytics
- What: crash reports (stack traces, device model, Android version, app version) when the app stops unexpectedly.
- Why: to detect and fix bugs quickly.
These services are operated by Google LLC and may process data on servers located outside your country. Google’s handling of this data is described in Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Firebase’s data handling documentation (https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy).
4. Data we do not collect
- We do not require or collect an account, name, email address or phone number.
- We do not collect your precise location.
- We do not collect contacts, photos, microphone or camera data.
- We do not share your information with third parties for advertising.
- The app contains no ads.
5. Children
HabitJournal is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app’s target audience is 13 and over.
6. Your choices
- Local data: delete individual journal entries from within the app, or uninstall the app to remove all local data.
- Analytics/crash data: you can opt out of Firebase data collection from Android Settings → Google → Ads/Privacy options on supported devices, or contact us to request that we help you disable collection.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes. Updates will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
